by Ben FowlkesFiled under: UFCShane Carwin may not be doing an all-out media blitz in advance of his heavyweight title fight against Brock Lesnar at UFC 116, but that doesn’t mean he’s not still available to his fans. Boxing vs. MMA - Will Couture-Toney Prove Anything?

UFC President Dana White insisted when he first signed Toney that he would never put on a “freak show fight.” This, though, is exactly what Couture-Toney has become. “I’m the guy who said all the time I’d never do a freak show and now, here I am doing one” White said.

…out.
He has to wait for his chance at Lesnar, though. As it is, he’s positioning his fight with Couture as a battle of boxing vs. MMA, though it’s nothing of the sort.
Toney’s best days as a boxer are far behind him his last win over a then top-10 opponent was in 2003 but he’s world-class in a discipline in which not many others in MMA are.
He’ll wear four-ounce gloves after fighting much of his career wearing 10-ounce gloves. And though Toney is known more for his defense than his punching power, he can punch and will knock out anyone if he hits them on the chin wearing a four-ounce glove.
The likelihood of that happening, though, is extraordinarily low. Most likely, Couture will either kick Toney and knock his feet out from under him or he’ll use his wrestling skills to quickly take Toney to his mat. And despite rumors that he forced Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Muhammad Lawal to tap in sparring, once Toney’s on his back, he’s a short-timer against Couture.
But if Couture quickly takes him down…

Writer/Director/Actor Sylvester Stallone and Randy Couture - The Expendables

If there was a team you could put together and a mission you’d like to accomplish, what would it do?

Sylvester Stallone: “5 guys, where would we go? Well we’d have to go after Bin Laden of course. That would be the mission.”
Randy Couture: “Give me 5 minutes with Bin Laden.”

Sylvester Stallone: “There you go. That’s what we need.”

How does the action in this compare to other action movies you’ve done?
Sylvester Stallone: “It’s far and away the toughest. I’ve done action films for 30 years and some really hard ones, but this one here was just grueling - just grueling. The heat, the amount of constant battering to the bodies, constant realism, it was hellacious.”

How about working with Jet Li?
Sylvester Stallone: “Jet Li was fantastic. He’s very quiet and he’s extremely…

VIDEO: Exercise Of The Week MMA Style | ELEV8

Ken Coward gives you a taste of Mixed Martial Arts Circuit Training.

…This week’s Exercise of The Week, will involve Mixed Martial Art circuit training. MMA style circuit training is very popular right now. The circuits at the end of this video give you a good idea what MMA training is all about. The good thing about MMA style circuits is that you can simulate many of these movements in your basement, backyard or garage. They are total body movements, which is the best way to increase your heart rate and burn a great deal of calories. The first circuit involves, a medicine ball, a sludge hammer, a couple tires and a pull up bar. If you do not have any of the above mentioned equipment, be creative, you can use a baseball bat , you can fill up a few bags with dirt . The second circuit is easier to duplicate, all you need is a medicine ball…

Lesnar submits Carwin in thrilling comeback win

Brock Lesnar retained his UFC heavyweight title Saturday night after rallying to defeat Shane Carwin. - UFC news

…Lesnar was pummeled like never before, but he managed to survive the round, and Carwin wasn’t able to do the same in the second. Lesnar took Carwin down early in the second, gained great position and slapped an arm triangle choke on Carwin.
Carwin (12-1) was never able to move Lesnar and he was forced to tap at 2:19.
I stand before you a humble champion and I’m still the toughest S.O.B. around, baby, Lesnar said.
Lesnar (5-1) was taking huge shots on the ground, but he said he knew Carwin was tiring and that if he could hang in there, he would be all right.
I knew he was getting tired, Lesnar said. Each shot was less dramatic than the other.
Chris Leben’s career was going nowhere fast just three weeks ago. But now, after back-to-back upset victories, including a crowd-thrilling battle with Yoshihiro Akiyama, he’s suddenly in the thick of things in the middleweight division.
Leben defeated Aaron Simpson at The Ultimate Fighter 11 finale on June 19 at the Palms in Las Vegas.
When Wanderlei Silva was forced…

Veteran fighter knows both Lesnar, Carwin - UFC

The only fighter to call both Shane Carwin and Brock Lesnar friends and training partners weighs in on UFC 116. - UFC news

…After seven more wins, none of which reached the two-minute mark, he got the call from UFC, where he continued his string of first-round victories.
The relationship between Carwin and Waterman has come full circle, as three days a week for the past several months, Waterman, who is 6-foot-2 and close to 300 pounds, would try and play the role of Brock Lesnar in Carwin’s training.
One of his key roles in camp has been to get on top of Carwin, in side control, with Waterman s goal to pound on Carwin from that position the way Lesnar would.
His defense has gotten good enough that he s very difficult to hit from that position, Waterman noted.
But Waterman does predict at some point the fight will end up with Lesnar on top of Carwin.
Brock is the only guy I ve ever trained with who could take me down at will, he noted. He s a freak athlete. He was 300 pounds and could do a back flip.
But he noted that taking someone down in an MMA match, because of the ability to use fists and feet, is more difficult than in a…
