…This past weekend, Wanderlei Silva was supposed to face Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 116, but was forced to pull out of the bout due to several injuries including torn ligaments in his knee, and cracked ribs sustained during a training session prior to the event.
Despite the injuries, The Axe Murderer had to be convinced by those closest to him to finally pull the plug on the bout, as he had every intention of fighting Akiyama with a severe knee injury.
Silva is scheduled to have surgery on the damaged knee next week, and will likely be out of action until spring of 2011.
ProMMAnow.com sat down with Silva following his seminar at Nashville MMA on…

ProMMAnow.com exclusive: Yves Lavigne talks controversial Ma

ProMMAnow.com spoke to referee Yves Lavigne about the controversial stoppage he made at UFC 115 in the fight between Mac Danzig and Matt Wiman.

…It was a great night of action that saw Rich Ace Franklin score a huge knockout victory over The Iceman and saw an exciting war between Pat Barry and Mirko Cro Cop end with a mind-blowing submission by Cro Cop.
However, the night was not without controversy, as the first televised fight of the night between Mac Danzig and Matt Wiman ended in what appeared to be a terrible mistake on the part of referee Yves Lavigne.
Early in round one, Danzig got a takedown and was on top of Wiman in his guard. From there, Wiman was eventually able to lock on a guillotine choke. After a few moments, referee Lavigne checked to see if Danzig was still conscious, he did not get the response he was looking for from Danzig and he stopped the…

Countdown to UFC 113 *VIDEO*

‘UFC 113: Machida vs.

…UFC 113: Machida vs. Shogun 2 takes place Saturday, May 8, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The main event features the light heavyweight title fight rematch between champion Lyoto Machida and number one contender Mauricio Shogun Rua.
After Rua lost a very controversial unanimous decision to Machida in their first fight at UFC 104 last October, UFC President Dana White did the best thing he could do for someone he thought got robbed, and that was give them an immediate opportunity for redemption.
Welterweights Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley, and heavyweights Kimbo Slice and Matt Mitrione are also on this card and are featured in Countdown to UFC 113 . Will Koscheck test his stand-up against the knockout artist Daley, and will the ever-improving MMA game of Kimbo Slice be enough to deal with his hard-hitting TUF 10 cast mate?…

Australian combat sports commentator Michael ‘The Voice’ Schiavello sits down with MMA’s most famous color commentator, the UFC’s Joe Rogan.

…UFC color commentator Joe Rogan
Australian combat sports commentator Michael The Voice Schiavello sits down with MMA’s most famous color commentator, the UFC’s Joe Rogan.
This is one of the most in-depth looks at the comedian/commentator/BJJ Brown Belt/Tae Kwon Do Black Belt/philosopher that has ever been produced. And it’s definitely the most interesting.
Schiavello is known for commentating such Japanese organizations as K-1 and DREAM and he talks with Rogan about the fighters from those organizations in comparison to UFC fighters, and they have some fun fantasizing about their dream match-ups such as Alistair Overeem vs. Brock Lesnar and Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brock Lesnar.
Schiavello gets Rogan to open up about his own martial arts experience, including his time spent competing in Tae Kwon Do and his introduction to, and development in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Rogan talks about his favorite fighters to watch, his honest opinion of Fedor Emelianenko, and how he came to be a fan of women’s MMA.
One thing that…
