…On Saturday June 26 in San Jose, Calif. one of the most popular and highly regarded fighters in the world will once again compete. Over his long career, he has faced multiple challenges and this fight promises to be no exception. He has faced NCAA champion wrestlers, world grappling champions, world champion kick boxers, giants, and former UFC champions. Through it all he has emerged victorious and remains the most feared force in mixed martial arts. He is The Last Emperor. He is Fedor Emelianenko. MMA Spot s J. Andrew Yount tracked down the world s top ranked heavyweight to discuss his up coming fight and his overall impact on the sport and his native Russia. For years Fedor s name and reputation have ruled the world of mixed martial arts. He has become the benchmark to which all other champions are compared. Should the UFC Pay Their Fighters More?

Should the UFC Pay Their Fighters More? a.k.a. The Great Salary Debate - Do You Care?

…of pro boxers have other full time jobs to support themselves. The avg boxing salary is 10k a fight, but on the way up in the ranks is approx 100 per scheduled round. Now an undercard fighter on an HBO show may get 30k, but we are taking an avg here.Lets get even more into this, teachers here in America teach and mold our children to be better people and obviously to succeed so they can go out into the world and be successful. I personally believe teachers to be one of the most important jobs in the world, do you know what the avg. teacher makes? Between 30-40k a year. So someone like Rich Franklin who is arguably (or was) one of the UFC’s stars is making about 10x as much as he was when he was a teacher. HMMM, kinda weird. Cops? Probably one of the other more important jobs in our country today, they risk their lives to keep us safe. The avg police salary is just over 49k per year.Comparing UFC pay to that of the big 3 in pro sports is kinda dumb, but again it’s all relative. Yes, your superstars are making…

MMA Spot - B.J. Penn’s Never-Ending Journey

When former UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn steps into the Octagon next Saturday night for his rematch with Frankie Edgar, he will be doing so as an evolved fighter.

…When former UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn steps into the Octagon next Saturday night for his rematch with Frankie Edgar, he will be doing so as an evolved fighter. Every time you get a loss you take a different path and you get back on the right journey of why you started this thing in the first place, Penn said. In fact, the journey that Penn is on is a winding path with peaks and valleys and his highly contested unanimous decision loss to Edgar at UFC 112 helped make him a better fighter. It s a journey of never-ending you never stop learning, Penn said. I do believe if I won that fight, I wouldn t change my game, and I d set myself up to fall even harder in the future. Penn says the fighter that we see at UFC 118 will be a different fighter an evolved fighter from what we have seen in the past. In fact, his loss to Edgar added some things to his game as well. Frankie did some things that impressed me that I actually started adding to my game, Penn said. I like how he didn t hold on to the takedown…

My Favorite MMA Fighters (and why)

3 MMA fighters, male and female, with reasons why they are the best in the business. Check it out!

…in a real confrontation on the street or in a bar. I disagree, with one exception. That is, I disagree that MMA techniques and tactics would not work on the street or in a bar because clearly they are effective at ending a confrontation/competition and many times by knockout. I do have to agree however with the traditionalists on the part of ground fighting. I would not want to be on the ground on the street or especially in a bar trying to choke someone out or submit them. There is too high a probability that others (most likely your attacker’s friends) would begin to effectively stomp your face to mush, give you a concussion and/or break your ribs with kicks and stomps while you were on the ground. I personally would be very concerned about that, so I think I’ll just stick to striking/kicking. But enough of that. On to my favorite fighters in MMA (in no particular order).
Fedor Emelianenko
I honestly don’t care that people who are UFC fans seem to have a problem with Fedor. The man went for a decade…

UFC 119: The Worlds Greatest UFC Cagefighters: Champions Vs.

UFC Dream WEC Strikeforce MMA news workouts tips predictions ring girls fighters wallpapers and more

…they seem to be solidly built from childhood upon a strong foundation of morals, and now later in life possess great human qualities.
Most combat sports champions we find, will also demonstrate some of these values outside their sport, such as honor, integrity, courage, and a tremendous amount of pride.
In boxing we have the Oscar De La Hoya’s, and Manny Pacquiao’s.
In the UFC, guys such Randy Couture are our heros.
Also cage fighters such as UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, or the seemingly unbeatable Brazilian “pound for pound” greatest in the world, Anderson “The Spider” Silva.
Then we have former champions, who are not only fighters inside the cage, but they have overcome tremendous odds in life also.
Guys such as former top heavyweight Frank Mir, who became UFC champion for the first time early in the decade, but unfortunately, in 2004, was involved in a life-threatening motorcycle accident.
Mir was broadsided by a speeding vehicle, it knocked him off his motor bike seriously…

…is just really naive to think that with hand combinations alone he’s going to be able to defend takedowns from the clinch and double leg dives.
