UFC champ Anderson Silva: I now want to retire at middleweig

http://mmajunkie.com/dyn/images/fighters/anderson-silva-17.jpg Forget light heavyweight, forget heavyweight, and especially forget welterweight; Anderson Silva says he wants to stick to middleweight. The UFC’s 185-pound champion today said that he plans to retire in the 185-pound class

…Man, where in the hell does this come from?? It wasn’t even long ago where several articles were released saying that Soares and Silva both said that they would love to fight at 205 and that there were plenty of great opponents. What happened to that? It seems like Silva gets bitter about certain things at times and holds grudges or something. Their camp both just said that he’d have no problems moving up and taking fights at LHW for over a year now. Dana should force him to fight at 205 though. Fighting anyone else at this point is useless and a waste. He’s cleared out that division and Vitor needs at least two fights before he’d be ready for Silva after this lay off….

MMA Spot - On the Spot ~ Robert Drysdale

Robert Drysdale is just another green fighter, looking to make his way up from the ranks of the minor leagues of MMA.

…I ve always been aggressive and I m looking for a way to tap my opponent, no matter what. McKinney: BJJ seems to have taken a backseat in MMA to wrestling in the recent past. Why do you think that is?
Drysdale: I totally disagree with that. I see way too many submissions in MMA. I hate when somebody says something like, Oh, the wrestler doesn t need jiu-jitsu. The wrestler that doesn t get caught in an armbar is doing jiu-jitsu whether he realizes it or not. You may not be looking to submit, but when you learn to defend that triangle, you re going to learn jiu-jitsu there s no way out of it. I get that all the time from people. You know, you don t have to learn this or you don t have to learn that. People have been saying for awhile that the guard is dead in MMA. We just saw the pound-for-pound most dominant fighter in MMA history get tapped in a triangle in a couple minutes. Another thing that you have to keep in mind is that I don t separate wrestling and jiu-jitsu. Everything that is legal in wrestling is…

UFC: Good, Bad or Ugly?

There is obviously a huge gap between the American “empire’s” sporting franchise and that of the Roman Empire’s gladiatorial phenomenon. The simple fact is death is not an expected part of mixed-martial arts contests such as UFCs. So what gives?

…Rome. 264 BC. Welcome to the first recorded gladiator games of the Roman Empire.
From this day forward, the games evolved over more than 3 centuries into incredibly intricate festivals of barbaric “entertainment.” In true Roman fashion, the games represented the most grotesque limits human death could be squeezed for spectator pleasure. Professional Gladiators would enter Rome days before combat with the equivalent of pamphlets being distributed with their personal background information. These gladiators were key guests at lavish dinner banquets leading up to the day — or days — of arena combat. The gladiators would also be made available for rich women who desired special attention from the Empire’s athletic superstars.
The gladiators were the main dish for the blood bath that was the Gladiator Combat sporting event, but they were not the only course. At one point in the evolution of the games, the first entree was to-the-death animal on animal warfare, man vs animal and even criminal versus criminal….

UFC 114 - Talkin’ Trash | Bleacher Report

Rampage Vs.

…-posted 5.26.2010
You want trash talk? You want a grudge match? You want two former champions with a vehement dislike for each other squaring off?? “Where’s your belt ?” exclaims Quinton Rampage Jackson as he stares down Sugar Rashad Evans. Don’t sit down for this one!Evans is a steady, consistent and well-trained Spartan wrestler with poise and balance. Jackson is a menacing backyard brawler with an attitude and a chain around his neck. The Vegas line is deadlocked at -115 on each fighter which is a testament to how evenly matched these two warriors are. Let’s examine the ways to win chart that I rely on to select a victor.Sugar will attempt to out-hustle, control, and wear his opponent down with his relentless takedowns and impressive cardio while keeping Jackson off balance — mixing in an array of improved striking skills. An Evans UD is a distinct possibility should he execute the carefully constructed game plan.Jackson has put himself through a brutal training camp motivating himself with that “hate…

UFC 114: Rampage Jackson Vs. Rashad Evans: Poetry In Motion

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight champion, and budding Holy wood movie-star Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is ready to return to action on May 29th to finally face down the long standing feud with arch nemesis Rashad Evans..

…a fighter who I feel will likely run-and-gun during the opening-rounds, but will eventually be caught along the cage, and knocked out by the more powerful slugger Jackson.
However, if Evans can manage “to stay on his bicycle” for the entire three rounds, he could possibly pull off a unanimous judges decision, much like the newly crowned UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar recently accomplished against former worlds “pound-for-pound” cagefighter, BJ Penn.
Jackson also has one of the most entertaining ring walks, or prefight entrances, ever seen.
It is pure poetry in motion, a spectacle not to be missed, and I feel that only a true poet could correctly describe its flamboyance.
I’m an extremely poor excuse for a poet, but I will leave you with a poem that I attempted to compose in honor of Rampage Jackson, and what it may feel like to walk in his shoes during one of his entrances.
Passing solid concrete walls, the lights they dim, the curtain falls.
A spotlight searches, the crowd goes numb, the distant…
